Q: What do I Need to Know
About Tryouts?
|
Please
arrive 30-minutes early to register and warm up.
|
|
When you arrive at the
field, report to the registration booth for your tryout number and
then begin stretching and warm-ups. |
|
Wear your Spring team
jersey and bring your own glove, bat and cleats. If you plan to try
out as a catcher, borrow your Spring team's catcher gear. |
Q:
Do I have to go to tryouts?
Yes, tryouts are mandatory and missing tryouts without making prior
arrangements will result in not being placed on a team. If you are unable to
make it contact Sandra Carrera.
Q: Who can try out?
|
All girls 16
years and under who played in Spring 16U, 12U, 10U or 8U divisions in 2010 are
strongly encouraged try-out for SSJSB's summer competitive team.
|
|
Former
SSJSB players who currently play on their high school Junior Varsity
team, and fall under the above age category, may also qualify for
placement. |
Q: Does the league allow players to play up?
Yes. If you are
interested in playing in a division higher than your age group, you must try
out for both divisions. For example, if you are playing as a 12 year
old and you want to try out for 14U, you must try out for both 14U and 12U.
If you don't make the 12U team, you can still be selected by the 12U
coaches.
Q: Does the league allow players to play down?
No. If you
decline to play for the team that selected you, you will not be eligible to
play for another team.
Q: How many teams will be formed?
We would love
to field
two teams each in the 8U, 10U and 12U divisions, and
one team each in the 14U and 16U divisions. The number of players that try
out will determine the number of teams we can field.
Q: How long is the Summer season?
The Summer
season generally runs from Memorial Day weekend (end of May) through July.
Practices may start sooner but will not conflict with player commitments to
their current Spring teams.
Q: What is the practice/game schedule?
Practice and
game schedules vary by coach and division. Teams generally practice three
days a week and play tournaments on the weekends. Most teams will play
between 5-7 tournaments. The 8U will likely play 4-5 tournaments.
